Open Gadda

OpenGadda is a project that aims to celebrate the Italian writer, Carlo Emilio Gadda through the production of a final thick digital net of information around the figure of the author. With OpenGadda users can immerge themselves in the full experience of the writer’s library and the archives, through browsing two different datasets. The website also offer a set of data visualization regarding the two documntary materials.

The project aims to delve into the patterns, properties, and behaviors of a network, enhancing our understanding of its operations. Specifically, it focuses on analyzing Italian theatrical scripts within the realm of Literary Studies. Our study centers on Eduardo De Filippo’s comedy "Filumena Marturano," employing data acquisition tools and interaction analysis methods to explore character dynamics.

SFFTranscription

SFFTranscription is a small-scale annotation campaign focused on three Shakespearean works from the First Folio of 1623. Utilizing Transkribus, a platform for historical document digitization and AI-powered text recognition, our goal was to develop a Machine Learning system capable of transcribing Shakespeare's first folio. The model was trained on two other Shakespearean works, "The Twelfth Night" (a comedy) and "King John" (a historical play), manually annotated by our team. We evaluated the system using a third work, "Julius Caesar."

Engaged with Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations, a major work of Stoic philosophy, our project uses linguistic and sentiment analysis digital techniques applied to a dedicated ontology. The aim is to read and understand this rich philosophical work, as well as its iconic author-emperor-thinker-feeler, in novel ways, through digital lights.
